Congratulations! You've successfully firmed up your agreement to purchase a new home. If this is the first time or if it has been a while you might be wondering... what now?
This checklist will help you to avoid forgetting important calls and arrangements needed to ensure that the closing day goes smoothly. These are 10 items that are involved in each and every purchase.
1./ Call the movers! Sometimes small moves can be accomplished by a U-Haul and a group of good friends. In our experience you're best served by calling the pros. The more notice the better.
2./ Power, heat and lights always make closing day a little easier! All kidding aside you might forget this phone call during this busy time. Nova Scotia Scotia Power should be contacted about a week prior to closing.
www.nspower.ca or 428-6230 or 1-800-428-6230 if out of province.
3./ Water. Don't forget the water. Contact Halifax Regional Water Commission to make account arrangements.
www.hrwc.ns.ca or 490-4820
4./ Cable, telephone, Internet arrangements are also best made in advance.
Take your pick from the limited selection we have here in the HRM. I'd personally stay away from anything affiliated with Bell Canada. (Bad experience with Bell Expressvue)
www.eastlink.ca or 453-2800
5./ Change of address. Easiest route is to visit Canada Post to arrange mail forwarding. www.canadapost.ca
6./ Visit www.region-halifax.ns.ca to find your garbage collection schedule.
7./ Newspaper delivery.

8./ Coordinate final details with your lawyer. Arrange assumption of any leased equipment and finalize mortgage documents.
9./ Schedule Pre-closing inspection with Don, Dorothy or Andy. Thanks for choosing us!
10./ Arrangements with a locksmith.
